Brother and Sister - Friends
3 Are Better Than 1
A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
- Ecclesiastes 4:12
I love my brother and sister. More than siblings, it is such a blessing to call them my friends. I’m not sure every brother and sister can say that.
The three of us cared for my mom during her last days - together - praying, singing, crying, hugging, laughing, and finally rejoicing together as we saw her let go of our hands and literally fall into His hands. I wouldn’t trade that time with her for anything; and I wouldn’t trade that time with them for anything.
Just as Solomon says in Proverbs, we help each other when the other is down, without question. We give each other emotional strength, sometimes just by being together. When circumstances are beyond our control, as they were when Mom was leaving us, we encourage each other. I know Solomon wrote this passage about soldiers in battle. However, it is so relevant to the strength the three of us gave each other during this recent battle. More than anything, we helped each other find strength in God.
We all need each other in this life to make it through the tough times. Friends accept each other, help each other, pray for each other, serve each other, encourage each other, forgive each other, are devoted to each other, and so much more.
So, yes, I’m glad we are brother and sister. However, I’m just as glad and grateful to be able to call my brother and sister my friends.
I love you, Nancy! I love you, Zack!
